GAK Culture Night
October 1, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Tuesday, October 1 – Professor William Selm of IUPUI presents Indiana Architectural Marvels built by our German Ancestors!
Professor William Selm of IUPUI will be in the Edelweiss Ballroom on October 1st, as our GAK Cultural Evening Series 2019 continues! The influence of German immigration can be found throughout the fabric of Indiana life, but perhaps nowhere is it more prominent than in the state’s classic architecture. From das Deutsche Haus (Athenæum), the monument, and the Turners buildings of Indianapolis, to the Sisters of St. Francis Covenant in Oldenburg, to the German Bank of Evansville, our state is filled with architectural marvels built by our early German immigrant ancestors. The structures are stunning and beautiful themselves, but the stories behind them are perhaps more compelling. Importantly, these buildings ONLY STILL EXIST because of the tireless work of preservation efforts taken on by the Indiana German Heritage Society and others, and the hard work continues. Come join Professor Selm in our Ballroom the evening of October 1st. His presentation begins at 7:30, Edelweiss opens for dinner at 5:00
